How does counselling work?

What to expect.

Essentially counselling is talking in an environment where you feel safe, listened to and not judged. Clients often say that being able to talk to someone they trust in confidence who is independent of their home and work life to be very beneficial.

After a telephone consultation, our first session will be an assessment session introducing each other and I will explain the counselling process. I understand  this may be new to you, and I hope to make you feel comfortable with me.  I don't expect you to tell me everything on your mind, I will be led by you and I will be flexible to your needs.  You may only need a few sessions with me, it may be longer term.

We will meet in a quiet, comfortable room where we cannot be overheard. In that first session I hope to find out about you, your family, what it is that brings you to counselling and how you would like to feel when our sessions end.

You may wonder why I called my practice 'Concord Counselling', the word concord means 'forming a partnership' and that is the aim, to form a professional partnership.  I want you to feel safe and relaxed with me so that you can talk openly and honestly about what it is that has brought you to counselling all within a confidential setting.

In our sessions I will give you opportunity to re-examine your path in life and I hope that after working with me you will come away with an improved mindset in managing the challenges in your life.

Please see some of my testimonials below.

One of the wonderful things anyone can do for another is to come alongside of them along their journey, when the going gets tough. You did this for me and I am exceedingly grateful. Thank you so much, I wish you good wishes for the future.
